Recommended disposal options

Give it away, sell or donate

Flooring—vinyl (installed after 1986), wood and ceramic tiles—in good condition may be given away, sold or donated to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Vinyl must be 8’ x 6.’

Vinyl flooring installed before 1986 may contain asbestos. For removal and disposal of asbestos, follow the Minnesota Department of Health's guidance. Contact at 651-201-4620 or health.asbestos-lead@state.mn.us.

Other disposal options

Put in garbage

Flooring—vinyl (installed after 1986), wood and ceramic tiles—may be put in the garbage. Check with your waste hauler or see landfills and transfer stations for drop-off facilities. If you live in Minneapolis, dispose of your flooring through the Minneapolis Voucher Program.
