Cellulose and fiberglass insulation: put in garbage
Cellulose and fiberglass insulation may be placed in the garbage. If you have large amounts of insulation, take it to a landfill or transfer station that accepts construction and demolition debris.

Vermiculite insulation: get assistance
Old, vermiculite insulation may contain asbestos. According to the Minnesota Department of Health, vermiculite attic insulation is a pebble-like, pour-in product and is usually light-brown, gray or gold in color. It may have shiny flakes, and/or small accordion-like pieces. You can check for markings on the material or its packaging – one common brand was called Zonolite. Due to health concerns, insulation suspected of containing asbestos should only be sampled and removed by licensed companies. For more information, see asbestos.
