Mattresses in good condition can be sold or given away.

Recycle

Ask the store where you bought a new mattress or box spring if they will take the old mattresses for recycling.

Pick Up Service: There is a pick up option for mattresses in some areas of the county. For more information, visit Second Chance Recycling.

Minneapolis residents: You may place your mattress next to your garbage cart on recycling week only. Please post a sign or write on the item "For Solid Waste." The mattress will be picked up on the next business day after recycling day. For more information, go to the City of Minneapolis website.

Hennepin County drop-off facilities

Drop-off facilities accept:

Mattresses, futon mattresses, crib mattresses, and box springs from households.

Fee

$20 for each piece. Cash, check or credit card (Visa, Discover, Mastercard) accepted.

Drop-off facilities do not accept:

NO sleeper sofas, Tempurpedic beds, Sleep Number beds, memory foam mattresses, Styrofoam mattresses, waterbeds, hospital beds, and air mattresses.

NO mattresses and box springs used for business purposes, including property managers and hotels.

Put in garbage

Check with your city or waste hauler to see if they offer pick-up service or bring to a landfill or transfer station.

Got bed bugs?

If you have a mattress or box spring infested with bed bugs, check with your waste hauler for proper disposal.
