Youth justice council

The youth justice council promotes community safety and produces positive outcomes for youth, their families, and communities.

Our mission is to improve and reform the juvenile justice system by:

Empowering youth to live productive, self-sufficient, and law-abiding lives.
Ending the unnecessary use of secure detention.
Eliminating disparities based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or disability.
Providing resources to effective community-based and appropriate services for youth and their families.

Committed internal and external stakeholders and community members volunteer on the following subcommittees:

Eliminating Racial Disparities (ERD) sub-committee

The purpose of the Eliminating Racial Disparities (ERD) sub-committee is to provide a forum where representatives from county and Municipal Governments, law enforcement, judiciary, County Attorney's Office, public defenders, public education, philanthropy, Community-Based Youth Serving Agencies, community advocates, parents and youth, work together focusing on eliminating ethnic and racial disparities within Hennepin County.

The ERD meets bi-monthly on the second Thursday of each month from 4–5:30 p.m.

Underserved youth subcommittee

The mission of the underserved youth subcommittee is to focus on the needs of underserved and vulnerable populations within the Hennepin County juvenile justice system, working as advocates and implementers of system-level change that reduces disparities and improve outcomes for affected youth.

We commit to utilizing a youth-centered model of collaboration in this work to empower youth and foster community wellness and safety.
