Anti-discrimination in transportation projects
Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 provides that "No person in the United States shall, on the grounds of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any program or activity for which the Recipient receives Federal financial assistance." This includes financial assistance the United States Department of Transportation (DOT), including the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
Hennepin County Title VI Policy Statement
It is the policy of Hennepin County that no person covered by the Title VI of the Civil Rights act shall be discriminated against in any County-led transportation project. Hennepin County extends this policy to all classes protected by the Minnesota Human Rights Act (see Minn. Stat. Chapter 363A). These include race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, and status with regard to public assistance.
