Penn Avenue improvements project complete
The Penn Avenue improvements project started earlier this year has come to an end. We updated and made improvements to this segment of Penn Avenue (County Road 2) between 12th and 15th avenues. You can now enjoy a safer and more accessible traveling experience on Penn Avenue — and not just when driving.
Improvements on Penn Avenue included:
- Updated roadway features such as new pavement and curbs and gutters
- Narrowed lane widths between Plymouth and 14th avenues to reduce vehicle speeds
- New concrete bump-outs at the 14th Street intersections to reduce crosswalk distance and improve access for people walking and rolling
- Upgraded pedestrian ramps and accessible pedestrian signals that meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards
- Concrete medians at both ends of the Plymouth Avenue intersection to improve traffic flow
- New street lighting matching City of Minneapolis’ street standards
- New utility systems ahead of the NorthPoint campus expansion project
